The McLaren 620R Is the Son of Senna

The McLaren 620R Is the Son of Senna

GT4 racing is the gateway to the big-league, a place where wealthy pay-to-play amateurs and much younger, faster blades on their way up the motorsport ladder lock horns in slick-shod supercars not a million miles away from the ones we can drive on the street. The McLaren 620R Is the Son of Senna

But just imagine if you really could drive them on the street. Imagine what it would be like to take the McLaren 570S GT4 that's been wiping the floor with the competition around the world, slap a license plate between its high rise wing and asphalt-sucking rear diffuser, and then inject it with another 170 hp for good measure. McLaren just did, it's called the 620R and it's laugh out loud hilarious. The McLaren 620R Is the Son of Senna

Okay, so for legal and drivability reasons, the 620R isn't a carbon copy of the real GT4 racer. But it's far closer to that than the basic road-going 570S both are based on. And with no need to comply with the FIA's balance-of-performance restrictions that choke the race car's 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-8, the 620R makes, you guessed it, 620 metric horsepower, or 612 real ones, meaning it'll smoke the real 450-hp GT4 in a straight line. The McLaren 620R Is the Son of Senna

Zero to 60 mph is done in 2.8 sec and it’ll reach 124 mph (200 km/h) in 8.1 seconds, only 0.3 seconds slower than a 720S. But throw in some corners and the R will gap the S like the big guy's just holed a boost pipe.

Visually, the 620R looks almost identical to the race car, its barely re-profiled rear spoiler, front splitter and suck-through vents that puncture the carbon hood delivering over 315 pounds of downforce on the front end and 873 at the back. But the 620R outposes the GT4 with a roof snorkel that's optional in some markets, and a no-cost option in U.S. cars, along with other MSO goodies you'd be mad to turn down.

So The McLaren 620R Is the Son of Senna
