There are few things in this world that are considered universally "cute." Puppies and kittens count, as do Domo-kun and Pikachu. All are universally adored because they’re soft and fluffy and huggable and, when spotted in the wild, cause grownups to go squeeeee. The all-electric Honda E falls in to that category. No part of this car is aggressive. Look into its wide headlamps and you see nothing but love. Take a walk around its body and you’ll fail to find a threatening sharp edge. Its hood-mounted charging flap is welcoming, as are its camera pods that take the place of side-view mirrors—both are designed to make life easier, and in doing so, they make the conventional stuff on conventional cars feel a bit less friendly. Inside is the same. The E's seats are soft and inviting, and the many screens show a wealth of information—or, if you so choose, a virtual aquarium. There are few hard plastics, and as with the exterior, no sharp lines. Just things you can touch, and stroke, and take joy in experiencing. Honda’s E, puppy-dog eyes and all, comes in two flavors—regular and Advanced. The differences come down to trim bits and a tiny bit more power (154 hp vs 136). This means the top spec E can crack 0-62 mph in eight seconds flat. Both cars have a 100-mph top speed and crank out the same 232 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to a 35.5-kWh battery, range sits at 125 miles on the European WLTP test cycle. Depending on how you charge, it can take as little as 31 minutes to get a full battery.
It’s quick, if not a long-distance runner. To get in the basic car you’ll need to shell out the British equivalent of just under $34,000, or a little over $37,000 for the Advanced car. (Both prices take a U.K. government $3800 EV grant into account.) It is not what you’d call "cheap."
